Teen Suffers Severe Burns After Lice Treatment Catches Fire
Aleema Ali, a 16-year-old from Bradford, England, suffered life-changing third-degree burns after a lice treatment caught fire. In December 2016, when she was just 12, Aleema returned home from boarding school with head lice. She used a medicated shampoo called Full Marks Solution, unaware that it was highly flammable.
While helping her mother take out the trash and later walking into the kitchen, her hair suddenly caught fire—likely ignited by a heat source. She was rushed to the hospital and placed in a coma for two months. Aleema sustained burns on 55% of her body, including her face, arms, chest, and back, and lost seven fingers.
Despite undergoing countless surgeries and a long recovery process, Aleema says the experience made her stronger and more self-confident. She continues to manage her condition daily with medications, pressure garments, and therapy.

Today, Aleema inspires others through her TikTok page (@aleemaxali), where she shares makeup tips with over 216K followers. One of her videos has reached 15.8 million views. She’s also raising funds through a GoFundMe page for further reconstructive surgery.
