Born Charles Robert Redford Jr. in Santa Monica, California, he began as a high school rebel before developing a passion for art and traveling in Europe. Returning to the U.S., he studied art in New York and later acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in the late ’50s. Over six decades, Redford built a remarkable film career with over fifty movies, including Butch Cassidy and the Kid (with Paul Newman), The Horse Whisperer (with Scarlett Johansson), and The Great Gatsby (with Mia Farrow and Sam Waterston).
