Mayra Rosales, nicknamed the ‘half-ton killer’ loses 80 per cent of her body weight
Mayra Rosales, once known as the “half-ton killer” after falsely confessing to killing her nephew in 2008, is now making headlines for her incredible transformation. Weighing around 470kg at her heaviest, she took the blame for her nephew’s death to protect her sister, Jamie, who was later convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison for the crime.

Confined to her bed for years, Mayra believed her life was over. But after being acquitted in 2011, she began a dramatic weight-loss journey. With the help of doctors, including 11 surgeries and a lap band procedure, she lost over 360kg and now weighs around 90kg. She also underwent skin removal surgeries and now lives a healthier, more active life.
Mayra shares her journey on social media, inspiring others with her story of recovery and hope. Her transformation was featured on TLC’s My 600-Pound Life, where she said, “I was alive but not living a life.” Today, she hopes to gain custody of her sister’s children and continues to motivate others with her message: change is possible.
