Mom straps baby in carseat, throws her out window to save her life

A mother’s intuition becomes powerful the moment she has a child — her child’s safety becomes everything.

This is the touching and tragic story of 21-year-old Shelby Ann Carter from Wyoming, Illinois. In January 2017, Shelby had just welcomed a baby girl and was excited to start her life as a new mom.

But on January 30, tragedy struck. While home alone with her newborn, a fire broke out and quickly filled the house with smoke. Shelby was trapped.

When firefighters arrived, they found Shelby had died from carbon monoxide poisoning. But they also discovered something heroic — she had strapped her baby into a car seat and dropped her from the second-floor window, saving her life.

The baby, Keana, survived without injury thanks to her mother’s brave and selfless act.

Fire Chief Ed Foglesonger called it “nothing short of a miracle.”

Shelby’s story deeply moved her small town, and a fundraiser raised nearly $40,000 for her family. Her final act of love showed the incredible strength and sacrifice of a mother.
